The compressor comprises two elongate rotors rotatable about their longitudinal axes, the curved side faces of the rotors being provided with meshing profiles of complementary shape. The rotors respectively have male and female shapes. The side face of the male rotor is formed from a portion of one or more helical profilings, and the side face of the female rotor from one or more channel-shaped profilings. A housing is provided consisting of two overlapping cylinders, each housing a different rotor. In the overlapping area, the bottom and walls of the channel-shaped profiling are in contact with crests of the male rotor profiling, forming a linear seal.
