The harvesting machine for standing crops is partic. for podded ones, having a driven picker drum with teeth on a horizontal axis and partly enclosed by a cowl. To the rear of the drum are one or more conveyors for the crop and/or waste material. The drum and/or conveyors have one fan for generating a local vacuum, typically an axial-flow suction fan with a perforated shield and an adjustable plate masking some of the perforations.
