Plastics containers such as crates for bottles or cans which are exposed to the UV ageing effect of sunlight are liable to show cracks. Carbon black, mixed with the plastic, is a stabiliser against this effect but has the disadvantage of colouring the article black. This can be overcome by arranging, for example on crates for bottles, butt edges along the outer top rim of the crate, by which the crates contact each other or other walls. The receding parts are all covered by a coating, e.g. of red paint which is protected against scratches by the butt edges. Alternatively, the whole crate can be dip painted.
