The die casting device, in which the die (14) can be filled with molten metal from below, has a riser tube (8) leading from a feed passage (9, 10). The latter is connected, via an opening (13) closed by means of a raisable plug (19), to a supply of molten metal. To supply the die (14), the molten metal is forced into the riser tube (8) from below by pressure. The feed passage (9, 10) has a vertical part (10) provided with the opening (13) at the top. The plug (19) and part (10) are surrounded by the supply of molten metal, at least in the region of the opening (13). Arranged in the plug (19) are compressed-air feed and removal passages (30) which open into the opening (13). Since the plug and the opening are surrounded by the molten metal, the molten metal is prevented from solidifying in the sealing region and, as a result, satisfactory sealing is guaranteed even after a prolonged period of operation. With this device, it is possible to cast castings which are largely free from shrinkage cavities and have a good surface finish. <IMAGE>
