As the sugar cane is transported upwards from a feed point to a sugar processing point, overhead jets provide a water supply to wash the cane free of impurities. Sieves under the screws collect may washed-off dirt, the water being held in collection troughs for recirculation. The purpose is to free the cane of impurities to yield high quality fibre material for pulp or cellulose with reduced water consumption. |
