PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for the judgement by personnel regarding to the result of processing, by cutting out a reading picture section into a rectangle, forming the frequency distribution of generation of density in this rectangular area, and performing the recognition of line picture section based on the distribution. CONSTITUTION:A digital picture is sectioned into meshes of MXM picture elements. The average density of picture elements at each sectioned mesh is obtained. This average density is determined as a representing density of the mesh. In the entire set of each representative density, the picture to be read is cut out in rectangle. In the cut-out rectangle area, the distribution of frequency of generation of density is formed. Next, whether or not the run of a longer picture than the scheduled threshold value exists in any of main and sub-scanning direction from the edge of the rectangular area is checked. In the generation distribution of density, only when the frequency of generation of a density 0 is larger than the shceduled threshold value and the run of the picture section exists, this rectangular is discriminated as a line picture section. This processing is repetitively made to the entire set of each representative density value. |
