The compounds are 2-alkyl-4-(4'-substituted-1'-piperazinyl-9,10-dihydro-4H-benzo[5,6]cyc lohepta[1,2-d]oxazoles and thiazoles; the substituents being methyl, ethyl or 2-hydroxyethyl, e.g., 2-methyl-4-(4'methyl-1'-piperazinyl)-9,10-dihydro-4H-benzo[5,6]cyclohe pta[1,2-d]oxazole. The compounds are useful therapeutically as anti depressants and tranquillizers.
