Olefin polymerisation catalyst - consists of a syncrystallite of titanium trichloride/aluminium trichloride

A syncrystallite 3TiCl3.AlCl3 is prepd. from a suspension of 50-500g powdered Al per litre of TiCl4 added to a soln. of AlCl3 in TiCl4 at 80-400 degrees C in vol. proportion 1:20-1:100 and held until all the Al reacts. Pure TiCl4 in proportions of suspension/TiCl4 of 1:1-1:10 is added together with the Al suspension to the reaction mixture at the b.p. of TiCl 4 to prevent tickening.
