PURPOSE:To provide a practical metallic material capable of safely storing hydrogen at high density and consisting of Zr and Mn in a prescribed atomic ratio. CONSTITUTION:This metallic material is an xZr-yMn alloy (x=25-30 atomic%, y=70-75 atomic% and x+y=100 atomic%). By supplying hydrogen to the alloy at ordinary temp. under pressure, xZr-yMn hydride is formed, thereby storing hydrogen. When hydrogen is used, by reducing the pressure at room temp., hydrogen is liberated from the metallic hydride and taken out. The alloy absorbs hydrogen in a moment and has higher hydrogen absorbency than a conventional hydrogen absorbing pure metal such as Ti or Zr. The hydrogen releasing rate of the alloy is >= about 50% above that of the conventional metal, and the alloy is remarkably superior to the metal in hydrogen storing capacity. |
