PURPOSE:To facilitate starting operation of a high supercharger type internal combustion engine being set to a low compression ratio which causes difficult starting, by providing an external combuster in the way of an exhaust path and feeding combustion energy from the external combuster to an exhaust turbo supercharger when an engine is producing an intermediate or low output. CONSTITUTION:Fuel is fed to an external combuster 24 and a ignited so as to add combustion energy to the compressed air being fed to a turbine 14 through an exhaust path 16 thus improving the supercharge capacity of a blower 18. The pressure of intake air being fed through an intake path 20 increases gradually with increasing kinetic energy of exhaust gas being fed to the turbine 14 through the exhaust path 16, and when said pressure reaches to such level as allowing self-combustion of a Diesel engine 10 having a low compression ratio, fuel is injected to the Diesel engine 10 so as to start said engine 10. |
