PURPOSE:To increase the number of registers used for the hardware for the peripheral devices of a processor and to improve the processing speed, by enabling to the use of registers more than the number of registers being able to be designated at a register designation filed. CONSTITUTION:A disc controller 1 consists of a control memory 2 storing a microprogram and a data, a microprocessor 3, channel disc interfaces 5, 6 and a register group 4. This register group 4 consists of a main register group 7, and sub-register groups 8, 9 consisting respectively of 16 and 4 sets of registers 16. Each register 16 is provided with a register designation field 15 in a microformat and one register 16 is selected by using a bit in the field 15 with a row selection circuit 10. The designation of the field 15 is made with a column selection circuit 13, an OR circuit 12, and an AND circuit 11 and a register group selection FF14 to increase the number of the register group usable at the peripheral of the processor. |
