1291561 Machine tool details W O M JONES 22 Sept 1969 [20 June 1968] 29486/68 Heading B3B A machine tool has a stop device for controlling the stroke and rate of feed of an assembly 20, e.g. a tailstock, headstock, or saddle, and the speed of rotation of a chuck or spindle, the device comprising a drum 10 having a number of grooves 42, and a flange 24 perpendicular to the grooves, a removable setting strip 12 in each groove and held against the flange, a stop block 14 adjustably mounted on a strip so as to engage and stop the assembly 20, the position of the block 14 having been set to a predetermined position relative to the end of the strip and means 44 for rotatably indexing drum 10. Each strip is marked to correspond with a particular groove 42, and is secured on the drum by a peg 26 and a screw 26. Block 14 is secured in a selected recess 60 on a strip is adjusted relative to end 54 by a screw 56, and is adapted to abut a block 74 carried by the tool assembly 20, so as to stop the latter in the required position. A small air bleed valve 76 is provided in block 74 which is adapted to actuate a valve controlling the feed rate so as to prevent damage to the stop mechanism. Chamfered block 16 slides along the strip, is secured in the required position by screws 68, and is adapted to control the limit of quick traverse by engagement with a roller 80. The position of block 64 and stops 30, 32, is checked and preset remote from the machine tool by a dial gauge. Figs. (3a), (3b) (not shown). The drum is indexed by a pawl and ratchet 44. |
