PURPOSE:To cast a hollow blank material for pipe making continuously without undergoing a hot punching stage by providing a casting space in the bottom part of a water-cooled mold, supplying molten steel at all times therein to form a trailing solidified shell like a cylindrical shell, and melt sticking and drawing the same upward under pushing back by the descending of the leading solidified shell. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel is introduced into the spacing S formed between the slope of the inside wall in the downward converging bottom part 3 of a water-cooled mold 3 and a leading solidified shell 1. The steel 2 introduced therein forms a trailing solidified shell 6 like a cylindrical shell while inducing swirling flow in the spacing S. At this time, a leading solidified shell 1 is moved downward to push back the trailing shell, thereby melt sticking both. The joined shell is drawn upward, and the steel 2 is again introduced into the spacing S produced by the drawing. By the repetition of such operations, the hollow ingot for pipe making, particularly a blank material for seamless steel pipes such as oil well pipes is produced continuously. |
