Collector for solar energy - employing double-skinned metal collector plate through which coolant circulates

Collector for solar energy employs the green house effect to collect heat behind glass. A collector element comprising two metal plates about 20 mm apart sealed together at the edges rests on insulation so that its heat absorbing face is about 20 mm from the glass. Absorbed heat is removed from the element by means of coolant circulating between the plates of the collector element. Various means are employed to promote heat transfer to the coolant in the space between the collector plates, including perforated baffles and packed steel wool. Used for the collection of solar energy for domestic heating purposes.
