The inspection hole esp. for roads comprises a cover carrying projections which locate into recesses (4,5,6) provided in a body which is buried into the road surface. The recesses are formed by metallic elements (1,2,3) which are cast into an outer concrete wall (7). The elements are pref. interconnected by a metallic ring (12) cast into the concrete.
