The device relates to cleaning and cooling gas streams which are loaded with solids and steam. For this purpose, as shown by Fig. 2, vessels, which are equipped with perforated baffles, are fitted out so that free spaces are formed at the edges which enable the condensate precipitated on the baffles to flow away. The continued flow of the condensate from vessel to vessel in the vessel group according to the invention is achieved by vertical or inclined positioning of the vessels to each other. The initial cooling is carried out abruptly in a special vessel, which is partially filled with water, and stepwise, in the further process stream, in each individual vessel. <IMAGE>
