Process for scrubbing crude gas from electrolysis furnaces for the manufacture of aluminium, and equipment therefor

In a process for scrubbing crude gas from electrolysis furnaces (3) for the production of aluminium in a liquid mist, especially water mist, and in equipment suitable therefor, the scrubbing effect is to be enhanced and in particular the removal of SO2 from the furnace gas is to be improved. This is achieved in such a way that the crude furnace gas is passed, transversely to the spray axis or spray nozzles (13), through at least one spray chamber (12) provided therewith and the air stream is at the same time penetrated by liquid particles at a pH of eight, after which the liquid particles are precipitated from the gas stream. The shed (1) has scrubbing equipment in at least one horizontal tunnel (9) with a crude gas inlet provided at one end, a gas outlet arranged at the other end and with at least one spray chamber (12) in which spray nozzles (13) are arranged directed transversely to the direction of flow (x) of the crude gas and precipitator profiles (18) which generate flow gaps (17) are provided upstream of the gas outlet.
