PURPOSE:To prevent surging and to improve propulsive force of a sailing ship by providing air gaps at both side ends of a sail and varying the shape of the sail putting out and putting in air of the hollow units which are inserted into the gaps. CONSTITUTION:A sail 5 is supported horizontally by supporting arms 3, 4, a cloth sail cloth is extended between the upper said supporting member 6 and a lower said supporting member 7, only the both side ends of the sail 5 are folded in double, thereby forming air gaps 8. Hollow units 9 which have flexible rubber tubes or the like are inserted into the gaps 8. Valves 10 which freely telescope air in the hollow units 9 are provided in the hollow units 9. When wind blows from the direction of arrows, air is press-fitted from the valves 10 to the hollow unit 9 of left side to swell the hollow unit 9. In this manner, the side end of the sail of left side becomes streamline state, the air is arranged, thereby preventing the production of surging. |
