The invention relates to such a flame-cutting process for metals in which an arc (3) is struck between the metal (1) and the cutting torch (5), with which arc (3) the cutting takes place while gas is simultaneously blown into the cutting kerf. The object of the invention is to permit flame cutting under especially difficult external conditions, e.g. underwater cutting of metal discs in many layers. According to the invention, a paste is directed via the torch (5) into the area of the arc (3). The paste contains a finely distributed, electrically conductive substance which is mixed with a carrier substance, functions as an electrode and brings about the striking of the arc. <IMAGE>
