In cold pilger machines, the mandrel bar, which is driven by a feed and rotation device, must be secured against lateral buckling. For this purpose, use is made of longitudinally movable supports, each of which has a guide opening. The size of this opening must be adaptable to allow the passage of the tube blank and to support the mandrel bar. In the present invention, use is made for this purpose of two shaped pieces (4) which are arranged on both sides of the mandrel bar (1), are connected rigidly to one another and can be pivoted about an axis (A) perpendicular to the axis of the mandrel bar and, depending on the pivoted position, form a larger or smaller guide opening between them. <IMAGE>
