The invention describes a container (10) for an extrusion machine, which container has the capacity to compensate large temperature changes and associated expansion changes in the materials held. The container (10) comprises a cylindrical lining (18) fitted in a lining carrier (20). The lining carrier (20) is arranged within a container casing (22) and arranged between these two is a fitting device which has rings (24) supported on its ends and having a conical outer circumferential surface (34), the container casing (22) having at its ends corresponding conical annular surfaces (38) which provide sliding support and allow radial and axial changes in the dimensions of the lining (18) and the lining carrier (20) around which the rings are supported, thereby eliminating the production of harmful stresses and/or pressures such as those which occur in prior-art designs with a tendency to malfunctioning. The conical surfaces (34, 38) are arranged in such a way that their diameter increases from the centre of the lining carrier (20) towards its ends. The production of stress and pressure can also be eliminated by a fitting device with conical end faces (42) on the lining carrier (20) which are integrated into the latter and, like those of the conical rings (24), are matched to the conical annular faces (38) of the container casing. <IMAGE>
