Photopolymer multilayer elements having water-developable, photosensitive polyvinyl alcohol monomer layers and which are suitable for the production of relief printing plates can be improved with respect to their production, drying and shelf life by applying a thin layer of a low-molecular-weight, highly hydrolysed polyvinyl alcohol.
