Within the housing (2) are two clutch parts (4,6) of which the second part can be fixed in an axial position within the housing by the control (5). The first clutch part is connected through the cable (13) to the accelerator (8) which actuates a power control such as a fuel valve or injector pump on the engine fuel system. When the clutch parts are coupled, the device prevents the spring (12) from retracting the gas pedal beyond a position set by the control (5). If the vehicle is braked when in this situation the release members (7) ensure that the clutch parts are disengaged. The release members comprise a steel ball (36) which moves along a slightly inclined guide path (37) under inertia forces, to strike the stop plate (30) disengaging the pole shoes (21,22) from the chuck plate (34) and releasing the accelerator.
