A window pane is represented and described, comprising at least one supporting pane (4) of light-transmitting material and an additional layer applied to the supporting pane (4), it being possible with the aid of the additional layer to inhibit the passage of light radiation and/or heat radiation through the window pane. To accomplish a freely adjustable transmittance for light radiation and/or heat radiation, in the case of the window pane according to the invention a liquid-crystal layer (5) is provided as the additional layer, two polariser layers (6, 7) are provided in parallel or perpendicular alignment with respect to each other and the polariser layers (6, 7) are arranged on both sides of the liquid-crystal layer (5). <IMAGE>
