Illustrated and described is a non-return valve (1) which has a housing (2), a passage (3) formed in the housing (2), a flap disc (4) arranged in the passage (3) and a pivoting shaft (6) for the flap disc (4), which shaft is arranged perpendicular to and offset with respect to the longitudinal axis (5) of the passage (3). The flap disc (4) is connected eccentrically to the pivoting shaft (6). The pivoting shaft (6) is provided at one end with a return element (9). In the prior art, the return element of the non-return valve is a return weight which engages via a lever on a pivoting-shaft end projecting from the housing. In order to eliminate the sealing problems associated with the passage of one end of the pivoting shaft out of the housing, the return element (9) is, according to the invention, designed as a torsion element. In detail, a helical spring is provided as the return element (9), this helical spring being arranged essentially coaxially with respect to the pivoting shaft (6). <IMAGE>
