In a method of operating a district-heating network and a district-heating network designed for the method, with at least one heating-heat works generating heating heat, at least one industrial installation generating waste heat, and a large number of heat consumers which are interconnected by a pipe network filled with a heat-transfer medium, it can be possible, depending upon the season, that the waste heat generated by the industrial installation represents an oversupply of heat. In order to supply this oversupply of waste heat to a profitable use by means of the district-heating network, the excess heat is according to the invention, in the case of such an oversupply of waste heat from the industrial installation in relation to the heat demand of the consumers connected to the district-heating network, fed into at least one steam-generating system.
