This process starts from the crude gas of a low-pressure coal gasification plant, which is first subjected to H2S scrubbing at low temperatures. The desulphurised gas is then split into two branch streams, of which one is immediately passed into the upper or middle zone of the CO2 scrubber which is likewise operated at low temperatures. The other branch stream, in contrast, is first subjected to a conversion. The converted gas is then introduced into the bottom part of the CO2 scrubber. The gas stream emerging from the CO2 scrubber, in which the two branch streams are recombined, is supplied to the methanol synthesis without further secondary desulphurisation. The H2S scrubber and the CO2 scrubber are connected in this arrangement by a common scrubbing agent circuit.
