The invention relates to a method for preparing silicon which can be used for solar cells by means of the arc process. This involves using starting materials having a low boron content and converting the silicon smelted in the arc into a sheet structure by means of a sheet spraying process, the sheet thickness corresponding to the grain size of the silicon crystal. After the sheet has been tempered (annealed), the impurities concentrated on the grain boundaries are removed chemically. <IMAGE>
