PURPOSE:To raise the reliability of selective actions for improving the quality of printing by increasing or reducing the power of a driving means by a drive control means according to the numbers of working typing parts. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 17 is driven with a given speed by a motor 19, and the arrival of a printing wire at its driving position is detected by a position detector 22 and then a timing signal is sent forth. A drive circuit 25 and a drive control circuit 28 serve to actuate a returning electromagnet and thereby a reciprocal part is driven in the direction of returning and moved to the place where it is held by a magnet. At the time, the drive control circuit 28 controls the input voltage of the returning electromagnet according to the number of printing wires not held by the magnet in order to compensate for the variation in the load corresponding to the printing wire number when returning the reciprocal part.
