A screw-type closure (1) moulded of resilient plastics with an internal thread (3) having an axial pitch spacing (P2) smaller than the pitch spacing (P1) of the mating external thread (4) of the container (5) with which it is used. The difference between the pitches of the two threads (3 and 4) compensates for variables affecting sidewall characteristics around the circumference of the closure (1), to secure more uniform application of sealing pressure.
