1352144 Making pile fabrics BRITISH CARPETS Ltd 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 11882/70 Heading D1K A method of manufacturing pile fabrics comprises supplying successive rows of pile yarn to a cutting station A drawing the row out 'by means of grippers 6 cutting the row from the supply by means of a knife or hot wire 8, gripping the row in transfer bars 7 and then releasing the grippers and by moving the transfer bars, either introducing the row of pile yarns into the gap between two parallel adhesive coated sheets so as to bring the ends of the pile yarns into contact with each sheet 9, or implanting the ends in a single sheet of adhesive coated backing material. The adhesive is then cured in an oven 14 and the pile yarns are cut intermediate of the sheets to produce two pile fabrics. The rows of pile yarn may be supplied by the gantry of a spool Axminster loom or they may be presented by the Jacquard of a gripper Axminster loom or directly from a warp beam. The backing layers 9 may be synthetic plastics material and the adhesive may be a thermoplastics material such as P.V.C. or foamed polyurethane. A reinforcing layer of hessian or other material may be secured to the under surface of the plastics backing during the curing or may act as a support for the plastics backing while the pile yarns are being attached. |
