An automatic-dishwasher detergent comprises 50 to 99-9% by weight of a non-ionic surface-active agent and from 0À1 to 50% by weight of at least one alkyl phosphate ester having 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical. Specified non-ionic surfactants are polyoxyalkylene adducts of hydrophobic bases wherein the oxygen/carbon atom ratio in the oxyalkylene portion of the molecule is greater than 0À40 and wherein the hydrophobic base is an alkyl phenol, a polyoxypropylene condensate with a base having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a fatty acid, a fatty amide, a fatty alcohol or a thioalcohol, and hydrocarbon ethers thereof. Specified alkyl phosphates are the mono-, di- and tri-stearyl phosphates and the mono-, di- and tri-oleyl phosphates and salts thereof. The detergents may be incorporated in a composition which may also contain an alkaline condensed phosphate salt, sodium carbonate, and/or sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, di- and tri-sodium orthophosphate, sodium metasilicate, sodium sesquisilicate, borax, sodium borate and chlorinated trisodium phosphate or a mixture of lithium hypochlorite or chlorinated cyanuric acid and trisodium phosphate. The composition may be produced by blending the ingredients and grinding or flaking the mixture produced and it may be added to an automatic-dishwasher detergent e.g. in solution. |
