A driver circuit is described which can produce an output signal voltage whose peak-peak value exceeds the breakdown voltage of the integrated circuits in the drivers.
<??>This is accomplished by locking with respect to a reference voltage, under the control of a control unit 22, the supply voltage onto the output voltage while the total supply voltage is kept below the threshold voltage of the integrated circuits in the drivers.
<??>The invention is suitable for use in inter alia line current circuits of automatic telephone exchanges for producing high-amplitude ringing voltages.
