NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formulaI(R1 is halogen, lower alkyl, CF3, lower alkoxyl or lower alkylthio; R2 is H, halogen or lower alkyl; R3 is H or lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:S-(2-Chlorobenzyl)-heptamethyleneiminothiolcarbamate. USE:A herbicide, capable of controlling weeds in paddy fields and exhibiting a high selectivity particularly for rice plants and barnyard grass without giving a harmful effect on paddy-rice plants which are useful crops, and useful for treating soil before or after the germination of weeds in the paddy fields. PROCESS:A compound expressed by formula II (M is alkali metal or tertiary amine) is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III (X is halogen) in a solvent, e.g. water, in the presence or absence of a phase transfer catalyst, e.g. a quaternary ammonium salt, at room temperature - the boiling point of the solvent for 0.5-7hr to give the compound expressed by formulaI. |
