PURPOSE:To provide high resolution by arraying and packing many pieces of the unit fibers obtained by bundling the number of the highest density of transparent vitrified base materials for optical fibers prior to drawing, packing these bundles tightly into glass tubes and drawing the tubes under heating, further tightly into a glass tube and drawing the tube. CONSTITUTION:Vitrified transparent base materials 2 for optical fibers having core parts 1 prior to drawing are arrayed and packed in a glass tube 3 so as to obtain the numbers of pieces 19, 37, 55, 61, at which the materials can be arranged at the highest density. Such tubes are subjected to a collapsing treatment to form the materials 2 and the tubes 3 mutually to one body. Said body is drawn under heating, whereby a unit fiber 4 of a prescribed diameter is obtained. Thousands - tens of thousands of the resultant units are arrayed and packed tightly in a glass tube 5, and the tube is subjected to collapsing and drawing, whereby an image fiber is produced. The image fiber of high resolution is easily obtained without disturbance in the configuration of the materials 2 for fibers during the collapsing. |
