The evaporator comprises a primary inner pipe conduit (1) through which a heat carrier flows, and a secondary outer conduit (2) coaxially surrounding the primary. The ring-shaped space (3) formed between the two conduits acts as flow path for a cold medium. - The flow path cross-sectional area increases in the flow direction along at least the part (Z2) of the space (3) in which the main part of the medium changes from the fluid phase to the gas phase, thus establishing a constant flow speed for the medium along this section. The flow path in this section (Z2) is also screw-line in formation. The space (Z3) which follows this specific section (Z2) has a flow area which increases in proportion to the expected adiabatic expansion of the medium gas, and the area (Z1) preceding it has a constant through flow area.
