PURPOSE:To produce grids which have high accuracy in shape and dimensions and are freely adjustable of weights in the stage of producing grids for lead storage batteries, by spraying an aq. soln. added with cork powder and water soluble varnish of a thermosetting resin onto dies then casting a molten Pb-Sb alloy for grids. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of casting grids for lead storage batteries of a Pb- Sb alloy, the soln. prepd. by dispersing 30-50g cork powder of 1-100 microns grain sizes in 1l water further adding water soluble varnish of a thermosetting resin having heat resistance such as a phenolic resin, an epoxy resin or the like thereto in such a way as to contain 10-50% resin components based on the weight of the cork powder is sprayed on the inside surfaces of dies for casting grids heated to 180-250 deg.C with a spray gun. After the moisture on the surfaces of the dies evaporates and the resin sets, the molten Pb-Sb heated to 430- 500 deg.C is cast. The grids of perfect shapes and dimensions are obtained, and the weights of the cast grids are freely controllable by changing the thickness of the cork layers. |
