PURPOSE:To increase the measuring accuracy of the quantity of to be polished and at the same time to enhance the polishing efficiency, by protruding a magnetic head to be polished over a rotary cylinder and counting the contour stripes which are produced when a polishing tape is wound. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head to be polished is loaded to a rotary cylinder 1 to protude over the cylinder. Many slits are cut longitudinally to a grating plate 8, and the plate 8 is set in parallel with and in the vicinity of the bar of an outer circumference cylinder face between the cylinder 1 and a fixed cylinder 2 which are concentric to each other with the same diameter. A light source 9 is set to irradiate the polished rear surface of a polishing tape 4 via the plate 8. A magnifying glass 11 is set to observe the slit pattern of the plate 8 which is projected on the surface 10 by the incident light 9a given from the source 9 and via the same plate 8. In such a way, the magnifying glass 11 is viewed through at the direction of an arrow III for observation of moire fringes. The polishing quantity of the magnetic head can be confirmed with use of the moire fringes. Otherwise interference fringes are observed by means of the interference light to confirm the polishing quantity of the magnetic head. |
