The fuel injector for an ic-engine has an injector body with an axial passage having an atomising base orifice. An inlet for fuel engages the axial passage toward the base, and a discharge passage extends from the passage wall at a different level. A plunger (10) slides in the passage between a first position at the base of the passage and a second obturating the outlet. The plunger displacement can be varied to change the amount of fuel injected. The metering feed has a groove (20) in the plunger side wall extending to the outlet orifice. The groove can have a tapered section (21) to vary flow.
