The arrangement for fixing the driving mechanism to the angled body of a dental instrument uses a method of bayonet fitting. The body (11) of the instrument has two projecting pins (16) at its outer end. The gear mechanism is totally enclosed within a housing with two sets of 'L' shaped slots (12 and 13) and (12' and 13') located on the outside. The driving mechanism is placed in the body and the pins (16) locate into the slots (12). The driving mechanism is turned such that the bayonet action takes place. The pins (10) in the instrument head locate similarily into the slots (13 and 13') on the driving mechanism.
