PURPOSE:To obtain the titled material capable of arbitrarily controlling and keeping the pressure of H2 in a vacuum apparatus by means of the surrounding temp. and the residual H2 content by specifying the atomic ratio of Mn to Zr in a Zr-Mn alloy. CONSTITUTION:The titled material is an alloy represented by the formula (where x is 0.01-0.18). The material is somewhat viscous, it does not ignite even after repeating H2 absorption and release, and it shows well the expected performance in the form of lumps without requiring pulverization prior to use. The Zr-Mn alloy is homogeneously solubilized at >=about 1860 deg.C and can be manufactured by an arc melting method. In case of x<=0.11, almost all of the alloy phase is beta-Zr phase, and in case of x=0.11-0.18, about 90mol% of the alloy phase is beta-Zr phase. To attain this purpose >=about 90% beta-Zr phase is required. In case of x>0.18, the amount of intermetallic compound ZrMn2 phase is increased, so H2 is absorbed at a lower temp. under a much lower pressure of H2, yet H2 is released under a relatively high pressure. In case of X<0.01, H2 is not almost absorbed at <=about 400 deg.C and pretreatment such as heat treatment at a higher temp. or activation is required.
|
