The gauge comprises a gutter (1) with one open end and one closed end (2). The fish (4) is placed in the gutter (1) with its snout against the closed end (2). The fisherman establishes whether the fish's tail reaches the open end of the gauge. Alternatively, the inner face of the gutter (1) has graduations (6) which correspond to the legal sizes of the types of fish. This gauge permits an easy and accurate measurement of the size without injuring. A hole may be drilled in the device to allow it to be attached on a cord or small chain.
