PURPOSE:To make action smooth and improve sealing, by providing intake and exhaust ports at the top of the combustion chamber of a cylinder head and by using a rotary valve, whose axis of rotation is coincident with that of the combustion chamber, open and close the ports and by improving the sealing structure of the valve. CONSTITUTION:A rotary valve body 22 is mounted on the lower end of a drive shaft 19 to open and close intake and exhaust ports 20, 21 provided in a cylinder head. The valve body 22 is rotated by a crankshaft through a cogged belt 17 and gears 15, 16, 18. The rotary valve body 22 is provided with intake and exhaust openings 24, 25 extending prescribed ranges of angle. Gas seals are fitted on the edges around the intake and the exhaust ports 20, 21 provided at the top of the combustion chamber of the cylinder head. An annular gas seal is fitted concentrially to the combustion chamber so that the seal extends inside the ports 20, between the ports 20, 21 and outside the port 21. A high degree of sealing is thus maintained. |
