A device for lowering and accommodating the spare wheel of commercial vehicles has a wheel holder (5) which can be pivoted upwards and downwards by means of a lifting apparatus (9, 10). In order to allow effortless removal or supply of the spare wheel (3) in the case of storage and removal positions being far apart, the lifting apparatus consists of a dual-action piston drive (9) and a lever (10) hinged thereto. The lever (10) can be pivoted about a parallel axle (11) arranged with spacing from the pivot axle (6) of the wheel holder (5) and is coupled to the wheel holder (5) via a pin-and-slot connection (13, 14). In this case, the parallel axle (11) has a smaller spacing from the pivot axle (6) than the coupling pin (13) of the pin-and-slot connection (13, 14) from the parallel axle (11). <IMAGE>
