A magnetic disc cassette apparatus is described which is of such a type that distinguishing between upper side and underside or front side and rear side of a magnetic disc can be easily and reliably accomplished. The position of the index-hole determining opening, which is provided in the magnetic disc cassette, is changed in order to permit use of both sides of the cassette. If the magnetic disc cassette is loaded with the wrong side up or down, this can be determined. Engaging parts are provided on the upper side and under-side of the magnetic disc cassette, so that the upper side and under-side can be used selectively.
