In order to carry out quickly and precisely measurements of the idling speed of internal-combustion engines, provision is made of a device which is cost-effective in production and whose interconnecting cable, which can be connected by a plug-in connection to a diagnostic unit and has a pulse generator which can be brought up to a marking of a part (transmitter pin) rotating at the crankshaft speed, is attached to a rod-type cable support which is supported and secured in position during the measurement of the idling speed on a spacer mounted on the engine side.
