The invention relates to a method of cutting objects which have a large cross-section of any shape, and the method is preferably used in a rolling mill or steel works for cutting cast, forged or welded objects, the objects to be cut lying axially parallel to the rotational axis of the rotating cutting devices (27) and, furthermore, the cutting being achieved by a relative displacement by means of an at least partly spiral path between these rotating cutting devices (27) and the objects (12) to be cut. The invention also relates to an apparatus for cutting objects of this type in a rolling or steel mill, which apparatus has drive devices (14) for supporting and rotating the objects (12) to be cut as well as rotating cutting devices (27) whose rotational axis moves parallel to them, and devices (13) for removing the cutting seams which form on the edges of the cut surfaces. <IMAGE>
