<p>System for recording and playing back video signals. The incoming video signal is bandwidth compressed by a circuit (16, 114) which chops each line of the video signal and blanks out alternate pixels. Alternate lines are treated differently so that on play back the blanked-out pixels of one line can be replaced by the retained pixels of the next line. The chopped and blanked lines are sequentially distributed across a stack of static heads. On playback there is continuous output from reading heads equal in number to the recording heads and the signals from the reading heads are sampled by a switch (20, 120) so as to reconstitute the chopped lines. The output of this switch is fed to a 1H delay so that a single complete line can be generated from the delayed line and the next line read.</p> |
