Rotary piston compressor having two intersecting parallel-axis cylindrical spaces, which are each passed through radially by a shaft. On the shaft of the one space, forming a hollow cylinder, there contactlessly rotates a working rotor having a shut-off tooth, and on the shaft of the other space there contactlessly rotates a shut-off rotor having a recess for the shut-off tooth to pass through. The working gas is taken in through the hollow shaft and through the shut-off tooth of the working rotor and expelled through an outlet duct provided in the housing case. In the hollow shaft there is arranged a stationary sleeve, which has a control opening and is shut off when the shut-off tooth passes through the recess of the shut-off rotor. To improve the flow conditions and efficiency, a connecting duct which is open after the working space may be arranged in the housing case between the recess of the shut-off rotor and the outlet duct. In order to meet the requirements at high speeds, the hollow cylinder may run on its intake side on an internal bearing, additional flow paths leading around this internal bearing being provided. Furthermore, axially directed slits may be provided in the shut-off part of the sleeve and in the corresponding shut-off part of a further sleeve, arranged in the first sleeve, which slits can be brought into line with one another when the inner sleeve is turned in cases of relatively high speeds.
