摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a rectilinear propagation type klystron with high efficiency and and gain with whose full length is reduced exceedingly by properly arranging cavities of fundamental wave and higher harmonics and properly selecting their resonance frequency. CONSTITUTION:To obtain high efficiency, the electron beam entering an output cavity 21 must be collected well and be provided with a uniform speed as much as possible. In this invention, since the fourth and fifth cavities, that is, the two cavities 24 and 25 just in the lower course from the second higher harmonics cavity 23 are tuned to the higher frequency than the klystron operation frequency f0, they function so as to collect the electron beam more intensely. Thus the efficiency factor F1=I1/I0 in the drift tube spacing center 26a of an output cavity 26 attains a high value exceeding 1.7. Besides, since the resonance frequency of a fundamental wave cavity on the upstream side of second higher harmonics cavity 23 is slightly higher than the center operation frequency, beam collection can be performed efficiently and high gain be attained.
